St.Louis native, comedian and activist Dick Gregory has passed away. He was 84. Dick Gregory died yesterday after being in the hospital for the past week. He suffered a bacterial infection. His death was announced by his son Christian.
Mr. Gregory broke racial barriers was back in the 1960s with hit comedy, He used humor to spread messages of racial and social injustice. Dick Gregory was one of the first African American stand-up comedians to find success with white audiences.
Gregory’s sharp and witty messages catapulted him into civil rights activism. Gregory briefly sought political office, running unsuccessfully for mayor of Chicago in 1966 and U.S. president in 1968. Dick also preached about the powers of prayer and good health. He was an all around great man. Rest in Peace King
