Pop Star Selena Gomez Hospitalized

Sources say that Selena Gomez has been hospitalized for a mental break down. Mental health issues are no joke. We are happy that the pop star is getting the help she needs.

It has been said that Selena has dealt with depression for a while. Selena wasn’t feeling well and went to the hospital, as she does whenever she feels off. After further monitoring it was decided that Selena would seek treatment at a mental health facility.

Selena 26, went to the hospital twice in the past couple of weeks. The first time came when Gomez was at her Studio City, California home where she was reportedly in low spirits and emotional over an alarming low white blood cell count.

Gomez was released days later, but re-admitted late last week due to continued health issues stemming from her kidney transplant, according to the publication’s source. The hospitalization drove Gomez to have an “emotional breakdown” where she had a “meltdown” and “freaked out” when she wasn’t allowed to leave.

Selana is currently at an East Coast psychiatric facility and receiving dialectical behavior therapy, which she has received in the past, per the site.

Weeks ago, Selena took to Instagram to announce that she was taking a break from social media.

“Mood lol (I was looking at myself in the mirror -like an idiot!) Update: taking a social media break. Again,” she captioned a smiling selfie. “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”

Get well soon babygirl.

The Truth About Those Pesky Fibroids

Woman experiencing period pains
What are fibroids?

Fibroids are abnormal growths that develop in or on a woman’s uterus. Sometimes these tumors become quite large and cause severe abdominal pain and heavy periods. In other cases, they cause no signs or symptoms at all. The growths are typically benign, or noncancerous. The cause of fibroids is unknown.

Fibroids are also known by the following names:

  • leiomyomas
  • myomas
  • uterine myomas
  • fibromas

About 80% of women have them by the age of 50. However, some symptoms can be silent and some women do not even know they have fibroids.

What are the different types of fibroids?

The type of fibroid a woman develops depends on its location in or on the uterus

Intramural fibroids

Intramural fibroids are the most common type of fibroid. These types appear within the muscular wall of the uterus. Intramural fibroids may grow larger and can stretch your womb.

Subserosal fibroids

Subserosal fibroids form on the outside of your uterus, which is called the serosa. They may grow large enough to make your womb appear bigger on one side.

Pedunculated fibroids

Subserosal tumors can develop a stem, a slender base that supports the tumor. When they do, they’re known as pedunculated fibroids.

Submucosal fibroids

These types of tumors develop in the middle muscle layer, or myometrium, of your uterus. Submucosal tumors aren’t as common as the other types.

What causes fibroids?

It’s unclear why fibroids develop, but several factors may influence their formation.

Estrogen and Progesterone are the hormones produced by the ovaries. They cause the uterine lining to regenerate during each menstrual cycle and may stimulate the growth of fibroids.

Family history

Fibroids may run in the family. If your mother, sister, or grandmother has a history of this condition, you may develop it as well.

Being pregnant increases the production of estrogen and progesterone in your body. Fibroids may develop and grow rapidly while you are pregnant.

Who is at risk for fibroids?

Women are at greater risk for developing fibroids if they have one or more of the following risk factors:

  • pregnancy
  • a family history of fibroids
  • age of 30 or older
  • African-American
  • being overwight
What are the symptoms of fibroids?

Your symptoms will depend on the number of tumors you have as well as their location and size. For instance, submucosal fibroids may cause heavy menstrual bleeding and problems conceiving.

Symptoms of fibroids may include:

  • heavy bleeding including blood clots
  • pain in the pelvis or lower back
  • increased menstrual cramping
  • menstruation that lasts longer than usual
  • pressure in lower abdomen
How are fibroids diagnosed?

For a proper diagnosis, you’ll need to see a gynecologist to get a pelvic exam This exam is used to check the condition, size, and shape of your uterus. You may also need other tests, which include: Ultrasound and Pelvic MRI

How are fibroids treated?

Your doctor will develop a treatment plan based on your age, the size of your fibroids, and your overall health. You may receive a combination of treatments.

Medications are given to regulate your hormone levels may be prescribed to shrink fibroids.

Other options that can help control bleeding and pain, but won’t shrink or eliminate fibroids, include:

  • an IUD that releases the hormone progestin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Birth control pills

Surgery to remove very large or multiple growths may be performed. This is known as a myomectomy. An abdominal myomectomy involves making a large incision in the abdomen to access the uterus and remove the fibroids. The surgery can also be performed  laparocopically using a few small incisions into which surgical tools and a camera are inserted. Fibroids might grow back after surgery.

If your condition worsens, or if no other treatments work, your physician may perform a hysterectomy. However, this means that you won’t be able to bear children in the future.

Bronx Landlord Being Sued Over Nasty Apartment Building

bxTalk about house of horrors in The Bronx. It has almost been a year that tenants of  643 Southern Blvd. in the Longwood section of The Bronx has had no gas. The gas was cut to the building on October 30,2017. What also makes matters worse is, the electricity supplier Con Edison posted a notice in the building that electricity will be cut to the building on Oct. 16 because the landlord owes $12,466.49 in astronomical arrears.

Life has become increasingly difficult for the tenants that reside in the building. After nearly a year without gas, maggots in the ceiling and mold-induced asthma attacks, 22 tenants of a Bronx building have sued their lousy landlord.

Tenant Modesta Gonzalez, 41, has a hole the size of a basketball in the wall of a bedroom where she sleeps with two of her four kids. She worried rats might scurry into the room. When falling asleep, the family looks up at swollen ceilings that are moist from water. The apartment that rents for $958 per month has lead paint, the bathroom is moldy and the toilet doesn’t flush. Her youngest child is a 4-year-old daughter.

“This is very dangerous,” she said in Spanish. “It’s very difficult.”

Gonzalez uses an electric stove and griddle to cook, but that raises her electric bill. She spends $500 a week to feed her kids.

“I buy food and it’s a lot of money for me because I have four kids,” she said.

The Legal Aid Society filed a suit over conditions in the 44-unit, six-story building in Bronx Housing Court on Thursday. According to the lawsuit, the landlord, Sam David, agreed in July to give tenants at 30% rent credit so long as gas was not restored and correct 141 outstanding violations of the housing code.

“(The landlord) is very aggressive about collecting rent but not in the least proactive about doing any work in the building,” Legal Aid attorney Benjamin Seibel said. “People have families. They have young kids, there’s elderly people with special diets. It’s a tremendous hardship.”

Blanca Cruz is pictured next to her non-working stove in her apartment in the Bronx.

Blanca Cruz, 40, said her husband put tape on the ceiling of their moldy fourth-floor apartment to keep maggots from crawling in.

She estimated she spends $50 per day to feed her 7-year-old son and husband. Tenants in the building often have to get takeout, which costs more than cooking at home.

“We feel bad. We can’t even cook,” Cruz said. “One has to work double to buy food so we could eat. It’s not fair because the owner comes and demands we pay rent. He doesn’t care about fixing things.”

Both her and her son recently started experiencing asthma attacks.

“It’s because of the conditions here,” she said.

“Yesterday, he had a really bad cough,” she added, looking at her son.

She pays $1,000 per month to live in the toxic apartment.

The suit seeks the appointment of an administrator who will use rent money to address the sorry state of the building.

A call to an attorney for the landlord was not returned.

Money Moves: Improve Your Credit In 90 Days

What is a credit score?

Basically a credit score is a numerical expression based on a level analysis of a person’s credit files, to represent an individual’s credit worthiness. It is based on a report that is sourced from credit bureaus.

Why is credit important?

Credit card companies and banks use credit scores to evaluate the potential risk posed by lending money to consumers and to mitigate losses due to bad debt. Credit scores are used to determine who qualifies for a loan, at what credit limits and rate. Believe it or not, good credit can be used in a decision for employment and car insurance rates. Landlords also use credit history in tenant selection.

How to improve your credit score in 90 days

Pay down revolving balances to less than 30%. Amounts owed on all credit cards and all installment accounts make up about 30% of your credit score. The most common revolving balances are amounts owed on your credit cards, and there is a big difference between the revolving balances of someone with a 780 credit score and a 680 credit score.

A person with a 680 credit score has revolving balances of 40%-50% of their credit card limits.

A person with a 780 credit score has revolving balances of 15%-25% of their credit card limits.

A single late payment can drop your credit score by 60 to 110 points.

If you had a 680 credit score, a 30 day late payment can drop your score by 60 to 80 points (and 70 to 90 points if you have a 90 day late payment).

If you had a 780 credit score, a 30 day late payment can drop you score by 90 to 110 points (and 105 to 135 points if you have a 90 day late payment).

Try setting up automatic payments to avoid late payments. If you do end up with a late payment,  there are a couple ways to request a removal. The most common and effective way is to call the original creditor and ask for a goodwill adjustment.. For other late payments, you can file a dispute against the late payment for inaccuracy.

If you do have a collection account reporting on your credit report, your goal is to get the collection deleted.

Don’t just pay a collection. A paid collection usually doesn’t help improve your credit score! Instead, negotiate a “pay for delete” IN WRITING with the collector. Only when you have a written agreement should you pay a collection account, and then work on getting the account deleted.

Increase your credit limits

Call your credit card companies and request a raise to your credit limits. Ask if they can raise your credit limit with a soft pull of your credit, since a hard inquiry will appear under the “New Credit” category of your FICO score. If you can negotiate an increase of your credit limit with a soft inquiry, then you will instantly decrease your revolving balance ratio (revolving balance divided by your credit card limits).

If you have low balances and a good payment history, then your chances of successfully executing this tactic will increase.

Charge small amounts to inactive credit cards

It’s easy to neglect older credit cards when you have a primary credit card that you use every day. If your credit cards haven’t had activity in the last 6 months, charge a small amount to the credit card. Creditors want to see that you are using the credit available to you (and paying the balances off responsibly). Charging a small amount and paying off the balance shows that you have a different mix of credit in use, which makes up a portion of your FICO score.

Get Credit

No credit equals bad credit. You need credit accounts to be reporting to your credit report in order to improve your credit score. You must have at least 1 open revolving account, even if you have no negative accounts. In addition, this revolving credit account must have been used in the last 6 months.

There are a couple of ways to get credit to improve your credit score in 30 days. One way is opening a secured credit card, with a preference being given to a card that reports as an unsecured card with your credit limit to all 3 bureaus.

The other way is to add yourself to a seasoned trade line. Someone with good credit history can add you as a co-signer, where you are equally responsible for all debt. Or, they can add you as an authorized user, where you are not responsible for any of the debt.
